Kevin Keim

Symposium Director of Design

Kevin Keim is the founding director of the Charles W. Moore Foundation in Austin, Texas. The foundation was established to preserve the extraordinary home and studio of his mentor, the architect and educator Charles Moore (1925-1993), and to invent programs that celebrate the importance of good, spirited places.  www.charlesmoore.org

Keim is the author of numerous books, including An Architectural Life (Bulfinch Press); You Have to Pay for the Public Life (MIT Press), and A Grand Old Flag (DK Publishing). Keim wrote A Grand Old Flag with his father, Peter Keim, who over the past forty years has assembled the nation's most extensive collection of antique Stars and Stripes.

Keim also invented and publishes PLACENOTES, a travel guide that seeks to lead people to places that really matter, from the scale of a neighborhood cafe to an entire ecosystem.  Keim writes, photographs, and designs every edition. So far, he has produced thirteen volumes, covering places such as Austin, Dallas, Houston, Portland (Oregeon), Pittsburgh, Fort Worth, New York, San Antonio, Chicago, West Texas, Seattle, and Santa Fe. PLACENOTES are distributed nationwide by the University of Texas Press.  www.placenotes.com
